Car Rental at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG)

Car rental services are advertised for Shanghai Pudong Airport, but booking arrangements and pickup procedures differ by provider. Confirm the exact pickup point, whether a driver is included, and the documents accepted for your nationality before paying.

Providers with airport listings

• Avis — Shanghai Airport (PVG). Avis lists a PVG location at No. 6000 Yinbin Road, Pudong District, and gives the contact number +86 400 001 3600. Its China location information says international visitors must book chauffeur-drive service; self-drive requires the appropriate Chinese driving licence and documents. An International Driving Permit alone is not accepted. Check booking terms directly with Avis’s official PVG page.
• Hertz — Pudong Airport. Hertz lists a Pudong Airport location and states that self-drive renters need a valid Chinese driving licence, including an eligible Chinese-issued Provisional Driving Permit where applicable, plus the required identification and payment documents. Foreign licences and an International Driving Permit alone are not accepted. Verify the current requirements with Hertz’s official Pudong Airport page.

Important rules for international visitors

• Do not assume that a foreign driving licence or International Driving Permit lets you drive a rental car in mainland China. Check the current Chinese licence or provisional-permit process with the provider and relevant authorities.
• If you do not hold the required Chinese driving documents, ask about a chauffeur-driven car instead of booking a self-drive vehicle.
• Confirm whether the provider has an in-terminal desk, requires a shuttle or driver pickup, and what flight details you must provide. Do not rely on an unconfirmed desk or pickup location.
• Check the total price, insurance, deposit, payment methods, cancellation policy, child-seat availability and pickup/return hours directly with the provider.
